Last year was a bit funky for most Virgos. You dealt with extreme highs and lows, courtesy of the planet Mars' extended visit to your sign and his lengthy retrograde. No doubt, your confidence levels peaked as you were able to accomplish a great deal of work in just about all the  major areas of your life (at home, in your important relationships and at the office). But there were a few months when you simply felt drained and unwilling to do much of anything. Thankfully, Mars’ influence has come and gone; hopefully you learned a few valuable lessons on how to make the most use of your time and energy. As 2013 commences, you’ll find a whole new set of lessons beginning to emerge. The experience won’t be as exhausting this time around, but important, nonetheless.

While you were attempting to navigate fluctuating productivity levels, you may have noticed a more creative approach taking root. This will continue to develop as the year progresses, and you’ll benefit the most by keeping an open mind to innovative ideas. Certain situations will further enforce the need for flexibility, especially those occurrences that involve joint ventures with others. Shared resources may become less reliable, leaving you no choice but to tap into new ways of expressing your own authenticity – whatever separates you from another (this could be a business or marriage partner). The unpredictability of events begs the need for adjustments on your part, and how you communicate any general feelings of malaise will be your saving grace.

Ruled by the analytical planet Mercury, your reason and logic can get in the way of real clarity and true understanding. A planetary trend that started in 2012 is now influencing your style of communication; added depth as opposed to quick thoughts will prevail as your thought processes deepen. A new you will materialize in what feels like an Age of Innocence, where your personal attributes and forms of self expression must now work in tandem with all that makes you unique. This is no easy task as Virgos prefer to be of service to others and not really to themselves. But this particular trend is a significant one, and will work wonders for you in your most intimate relationships.

Once we move into June of this year, a light hearted energy sets in. You’ll be spending more time with new friends, and other characters that enter your life now will have an expansive effect. Planet configurations above are working on your behalf to put you out in the spotlight taking on new leadership roles in group dynamics. Feel free to align yourself with certain networks that further promote your personal growth. By the end of the year, your popularity will rise and you’ll see just how far you’ve come.

Happy New Year Virgo!

The planet Mars spends about six weeks in each of the 12 Zodiac signs, taking close to 18 months to complete a full orbit around the Sun. As the god of War makes its way through the Zodiac, each member can expect a healthy boost in energy. The Sun and Mars are friends, both composed of a fire element. Therefore, when Mars is traveling through our Sun sign, it feels as if we've been given a super dose of adrenaline; we are suddenly able to accomplish a great deal. In Astrology, Mars is all about how we get things done. However, this push for action also comes with an insatiable sense of urgency.

At the moment, Mars is currently transiting your sign, Virgo. Most definitely, this is welcomed news! You'd be wise to take advantage of the energy surge, as you will surely benefit. Mars moved into the sign of Virgo last November of 2011, so many of you have already felt a shift. You should know, however, that this is no ordinary six week transit – Mars is scheduled to stay in your sign through July of 2012. This nine month visit is still very exciting. But it does come with a warning for you to pace yourself. Too much of anything is never really a good thing, and this is even more true for you as Mars turns retrograde on January 23rd.

A retrograde planet gives the visual image of moving backwards in the sky. It signals a time for us to reevaluate any projects or initiatives that have been recently implemented. This retrograde period explains why Mars will be in your sign for so long. The planet is currently moving forward in the constellation of Virgo; it will turn retrograde this month retracing its steps all the way through April; after which, the planet will begin to move forward again, leaving your sign this summer never to return until 2014. Out of all the celestial bodies in our Solar System, Mars is probably the toughest planet to work with while in retrograde. As we attempt to reassess the plans we’ve laid out, we are put on hold, unable to act. But to be fair, a retrograde planet does show some benefit in allowing us to review and redo those things we may have missed.

For Virgo, a sign known for its perfection and attention to detail, you can be your own worst critic at times. You may feel overly confident while Mars is moving forward in your sign, but a heavy feeling of anxiety could take over when this planet begins to backtrack. That is why I advise you to pace yourself with this energy. There's abundance at your disposal, so this would be the time for you to put to use your signature practicality. After all is said and done, Mars will have been a wonderful asset to have by your side. Come July, you will be amazed with your level of productivity, and ready to accomplish your end of year goals.

Happy New Year, Virgo!
